Took the movements and put the boxes together, changed the hands so they would touch the little metal dial markers and complete a circuit that would make the bell ring. The convoy would set the time and the intervals between course changes would be transferred to these clocks. When the bells rang a predetermined course change would occur. This would continue until the convoy was out of danger. The British also made these convoy zig-zag clocks, and I have some of them, and will be putting them up later.
Description of this clock; For your consideration we have a Kelvin-White Co. CONVOY ZIG ZAG CLOCK that wants to run; there is no key. This is a repair person's or restoration project. It has a Seth Thomas 8-day #10 movement.
The clock will need to be cleaned and serviced. The instructions for operation and parts is on the door. The painted wood case shows wear, loss of finish, there has been some repair on the top of the case, the bottom hinge needs work, and the case is very dirty. The glass is in good condition.
These old work horse Seth Thomas movements are hard to beat. This one might start running with just a little oil. The case measures almost 16" high, 7-1/2" across, and 4-3/8 deep.
PLEASE NOTE: The dry cell batteries were pictured as a matter of interest, to show how the bell was powered, but they are NOT included. We sell these clocks with professionals, hobbyists, or beginning collectors repair persons. We prefer to sell to people who have experience in setting up pendulum clocks. Please refer to pictures for more information. We wind and report what we find. They will all need service of some kind. Usually cleaning and oil at the least. If the description states the clock is running that does not guarantee it will not need adjustment or repair.
If you are not experienced with pendulum clocks you may need to seek a professional to set the clock up for you. Other questions like missing hands, hairline on the dials, and serial numbers can be discerned from the pictures if not stated in the description. In most cases, we put our items next to the ruler to give you a sense of size not to give you a measurement. Camera angles, lighting, and many other variables can distort the actual measurements. Please see description for actual measurements. Please contact me with any questions! Here are some definitions to help you understand our watch descriptions.
