Seth Thomas City Series Newark with Rare Woods Patent Alarm. Seth Thomas City Series Newark with Rare Winward Patent Alarm. This clock was made by Seth Thomas Clock Co. The case is walnut with leaf carved scrolls on the top and sides. On the back is a date stamp of 1899 L (we think) which means December.
There is two partial parts of a label. The dial is a 6 paper dial with black Roman numerals in great condition.
The brass dial ring (aka pie crust) is beautifully decorated. The movement is spring driven 8 day time and alarm. The alarm is a rare feature and was special ordered. This alarm strikes BOTH a gong and bell at the same time! It is a Winward's Patent alarm, made for the British market, and is a long duration alarm that runs where the strike train would normally be.Shut off is via a lever on the top. This advertisement came from a London publication, Robert M. Marples & Sons catalogue, dated 1899. The pendulum is a star burst pattern. There is a label inside on the bottom.
