This handsome rarity has much of its original case in good condition and has fully marked 2 weight movement as well as partial black paper label inside. The wooden cutout board behind the 8 original painted dial (worn) has loose oak veneer. It measures 27 ½ tall x 17 wide x 5 ¾ deep as pictured and the dirty, greasy works want to run when you pull on the weight string. It wont run for a full minute with the weights on, and it sets up, but fails to strike with the weights hanging. Did I get something wrong when I hung the 4 pulleys associated with weights (one is the right size but does not match the other)the cord is not wound neatly on the barrelsare the works just too dirty?
The movement looks good to me, so any one of these variables (or all) may come in to play. Its pendulum stick is broken near the top and has a clumsy black electrician tape repair and the bob is likely a replacement. The oak veneered back has a faint, printed date of 1881.
