Antique Seth Thomas Sonora Chime 5 Bell Clock Runs Strikes & Chimes! Inlaid Case w/ Crazing to Finish.

Here is an opportunity to own a Seth Thomas Sonora Chime Bell Clock that is in very nice condition. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! This is a 5 Bell Sonora Chime Clock. Not sure which model number yet. The clock dates to the mid 1910s period.

There is nothing like the sound of a bell versus a rod strike/chime clock. Once you have one, you will have a hard time every finding a rod or gong clock whose sound you like better.

Few of these clocks were made. This clock was probably made in the mid 1910's period. Not sure what model this is yet. You be the judge at to the clock's age and the model number before acquiring.

Nice solid wood case on this clock. No cracks, repairs or splits to the case. Beautiful inlay on the front of the case. The finish to the case does show a lot of crazing from exposure to heat.

Probably stored in an attic at one time. Some loss to the finish on the front where the bezel latch is.

See nothing on the inside of the case or the outside to show that it was ever refinished at any time. The 8 day brass clock and chime movements appear to be in good condition. Has an 89AG and 90B movements. The clock has been running since we got it. The three wind springs feel sound when keyed.

An appropriate pendulum bob is with the clock. The chimes unit is a number 90B. The time/strike unit is a number 89AG.

The brass plates of the time and chimes' units show some loss of finish from oiling and time over the years. Each of the bells, is about 2.75 in diameter, and all sound great when the clock strikes and chimes.

The hour strike bell is slightly larger. None of the bells have any cracks or other damage that would impede their sound. The clock was made to chime every 15 minutes and then chimes, and strikes the number of hours on the hour. The chimes unit is to the Westminster chime sound. Currently running and chiming as expected.

Clock Doc just serviced and the Clock is now striking as expected , as well. The brass plate is in place to lift the strike hammers when you wish to silence the clock.

The nest of bells look good, other than needing a good cleaning and are securely attached to the case. The face of the clock does show some moderate wear to the silver colored finish. Says "Sonora Chime" and "Made by Seth Thomas" in USA on the face. The face is made of tin and has black colored numbers.

Beautiful gold colored trim ring around the face. The hands match and look appropriate to the clock. The wood door is in place, and the beveled glass is there as well. No cracks or blistering to the glass.

The rear door of the clock is still in place as is the latch that holds it in place. The silk material in the rear door is worn and coming apart. The clock comes with the 4 brass feet and two of them are detached. The clock will come with an older winding key. The clock stands 14-1/8" tall, by 10.25" across, by 8-1/8 wide.

The clock face is 5.75 across. This was definitely a quality clock made around 100 years ago. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear.

One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
