Nice Seth Thomas 8-Day Time and Strike Adamantine Woodgrain Mantel Clock Working Well. This is a really nice antique Seth Thomas 8-day time and strike Adamantine mantel clock. It has an Adamantine two-tone dark woodgrain finish.
Adamantine, a celluloid veneer, was developed by the Celluloid Mfg. Of New York City and patented in 1880. Seth Thomas started using Adamantine glued over wood cases as early as 1882 in various colors. It measures 16 1/4", 5 1/4" deep and 9 3/4 tall. The painted metal dial is marked Seth Thomas and is in great condition. The Adamantine is also in very nice condition.There is a small chip on the right end (see last photo). It runs well and strikes a gong at the top of the hour with the correct number of hours and once at the bottom of the hour. The original brass movement has the Seth Thomas logo. The key is included but is not original. You will not be disappointed in this fine antique clock.
