ANTIQUE SETH THOMAS 8 DAY GARNITURE SET COBALT BLUE PORCELAIN COURTING SCENES This garniture is an unusual set for Seth Thomas. It is made of cobalt blue porcelain and hand decorated with gold and colorful handpainted panels of courting and friendship scenes. The clock has an 8 day, balance wheel escapement, so it will run on many surfaces. It stands 7 1/2" high x 6" wide at the bottom and 2 1/2 deep.
The two flanking vases have Asian influenced stylized handles and stand 6 3/4" high x 4" wide at the widest including the handles. The set is in remarkable condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Some of the gold has worn away over the years and I would date this to the early 20th century. These sets are usually very large and this one is quite compact. The clock has an porcelain enamel dial, which has a hairline crack from the center opening through the number 6 and some larger cracks to the right of the number 3. The glass crystal is beveled and free of nicks and has a solid brass bezel. It has Arabic numerals and black spade hands on a contrasting white dial.
