Antique Seth Thomas Adamantine Mantel Clock Restored

  

For your consideration is a 1910 era Seth Thomas Adamantine mantle clock. Adamantine veneer was developed by the Celluloid Manufacturing Company of New York City, and was covered by U.

Patent number 232,037, dated September 7, 1880. It is a plastic type veneer that can be polished back to its original sheen unlike the painted or stained cases of that era. The case has been cleaned and polished, the movement disassembled and cleaned and bushing added where needed. The clock has been run for 2 weeks and keeps proper time and strikes the hours correctly. The face, hands and pendulum bob are original to the clock and the key is a proper replacement.

The movement is the 89 movement used in hundreds of thousands of Seth Thomas clocks from 1904 forward and is a durable workhorse movement, functioning as well today as it did 115 years ago when it was placed into service. The adamantine on the case is in almost new condition with no major chips or missing veneer as often seen on these clocks. Probably the best conditioned case I've seen on these era clocks. The clock measures 10" tall by 16" wide by 5 deep.
