USA in the year 1901. This model is one of the crown jewels of early 1900's American mantle clocks and a favorite of antique clock collectors everywhere. It is a larger than usual model that boasts a crown molding style top, celluloid drum sides, four full round celluloid columns with standards and capitals, larger than usual paw feet, and a signed Seth Thomas movement that is one of the most dependable 8 day time and strike clock movements ever made. It has been serviced and is in good running and gonging order. The "Adamantine" finish, which is a patented laminate finish from the late 1800's, is in good shape for its age. You usually will notice a little shrinkage at the corners and edges and some cracking here and there, as well as minor dings, fading and scuffs, which is the nature of the Adamantine finish. It is a thin laminate over soft wood, and so shrinks, cracks and dents fairly easily with just normal use over time. This one has only a couple minor dings from being moved around over the years, and a minor crack or two, but all in all the appearance is exceptional. The reddish brown finish was made to simulate either rosewood or cherry.
The case measures 17 ½" wide x 11 ½" high x 7 deep. It has a beautiful brass bezel and dial assembly. The paper dial is original and so does show signs of wear and age. This clock runs well, keeps pretty good time and gongs properly.
It counts each hour on a mellow sounding antique cathedral gong, i. 1 gong at 1:00, 2 gongs at 2:00, etc.
And announces each half hour with a single brass bell chime. Complete with a key and the original pendulum, it is ready to set up on your mantle and enjoy. This helps ensure that the new owner will have a satisfying experience.
