Antique (circa 1910) Seth Thomas "World" Model Drop Octagon 15 day pendulum driven wall clock in very good overall condition. This classic oak cased wall timepiece measures approximately 32 inches in length. The oak case is complete in every respect, with original panels retaining their original medium oak colour finish. Some visible character marks on inside and outside of case from normal use and life of clock. Clock retains original pendulum, swing indicator, top and bottom door latches and brass winding key.

Top section face panel includes original glass on brass frame with original wood/metal locking mechanism. Bottom section door panel includes original glass on wood frame with original metal locking mechanism.

Bottom glass has "Dingwall Jeweller Winnipeg" etched on glass and has 1 horizontal crack. The 14 dial with original paint and black metal hands, features an Arabic numeral time track, seconds dial and is signed by the Maker in the traditional location.

The medium pendulum includes a flat wood rod and medium brass covered bob with brass calibration adjustment nut. The Brass Movement is in great condition and uses the large double spring movement model no. Original Seth Thomas label on inside of case, adds to the character and authenticity of this timepiece.

He was apprenticed as a carpenter and joiner, and worked building houses and barns. He started in the clock business in 1807, working for clockmaker Eli Terry.

Thomas formed a clock-making partnership in Plymouth, Connecticut with Eli Terry and Silas Hoadley as Terry, Thomas & Hoadley. In 1810, he bought Terrys clock business, making tall clocks with wooden movements, though chose to sell his partnership in 1812, moving in 1813 to Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut, where he set up a factory to make metal-movement clocks. In 1817, he added shelf and mantel clocks. By the mid-1840s, he changed over to brass from wooden movements. He made the clock that is used in Firemans Hall. He died in 1859, whereupon the company was taken over by his son, Aaron, who added many styles and improvements after his fathers death. The company went out of business in the 1980s.
