ANTIQUE SETH THOMAS WEIGHT DRIVEN MOVEMENT WALL OR MANTLE CLOCK. This clock was made in the 1840s that was the period when Seth Thomas began using brass instead of wood for the mechanism, It is driven by weights, which was discontinued in the 1850s. The reverse painting on the glass has some damage but not very severe. Included is a crank for winding the two weights which are inside the case running in separate tracks.It runs for more than 24 hours On a winding. The case is in really good condition for the age. A piece of molding on the lower right had been replaced, but is not noticeably different. Keeps excellent time, but striking is somewhat erratic. Dimensions are 25 inches high by 15 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches deep.
