The case is made from Adamantine, which was used to replace the expensive French clock cases made of slate, onyx, and marble. Seth Thomas started using Adamantine around 1882.

Adamantine is a celluloid veneer that is glued on the wood case. They came in many different colors white, black, onyx, marble and wood grain which was the most popular. This is an 8 day ding dong strike movement.

Normally a clock will strike once on a gong or bell for the half hours then count the hours out. This clock strikes once on the half hour but strikes on two bells for the hour ding dong = 1, ding dong ding dong = 2, etc. The double bells seem to be made of bronze. Brass feet as well as the bezel.

The two accent pieces on the sides of the dial are of Victorian era cast design and are gold-plated. The dial is a cream colored celluloid with black Arabic numerals (there does appear to be faint toning). The Seth Thomas name, F/S, as well as Ding Dong Strike are printed on the dial. The original label is inside the back door.

On the bottom is stamped 1913 (107 years old). Dimensions are Height 14", Width 12", Depth 6.5, Weight 5 lbs.
