It has a beautiful, accented Mahogany cabinet case with a continuous contrasting burled wood front panel; a 6-inch convex silvered dial with raised bronze numerals; cast sash; silvered mat and convex beveled glass. Measuring 10 inches high, 20 5/8 inches wide and 7 inches deep.The heart of the clock is the very heavy, premium No. 113 high-grade Westminster chime movement attached firmly to a solidly integrated seat board. This movement consists of three separate trains; one to operate the hour strike, the time and the chime functions. All wheels are cut of heavy brass, solid cut steel pinions, hardened and polished; pivots hardened and burnished. The plates made of heavy hard rolled brass. It uses a reliable, heavy-duty chime adjustment or self-correcting lever which regulates or corrects the chime and hour strike automatically within the hour. The quarterly chimes may be silenced by using the small end of the double-ended winding key. The hourly strike will continue even with chimes silenced.
This clock would make a great addition to any antique clock collection. If you only want one tambour for your collection, this would be a fantastic, distinctive example! It would also make a fine gift to a very special someone who appreciates antiques.
We believe that this clock is almost completely original right down to the Pendulum and Winding Key. The Chime Hammers appear to have been previously replaced as they have the synthetic elastic tips.
These types of tips are very durable and give the Clock a very nice Chime and Strike sound when they sound the Mayland "Bugle" Tuned Chime Rods. Every aspect and function of this clock's case and movement have been successfully serviced, restored, repaired and tested!
The Case, Dial, Sash and Hands. The case was disassembled, cleaned and inspected. The original wood stain and shellac finish were completely retained. The original finish has been hand rubbed out and several coats of high-quality furniture paste wax were then applied protection to the finish. This is a process that can't be rushed.It takes time to do it right, but the results are worth the time and effort. The dial was thoroughly cleaned and the silver was properly brightened to restore much of the original appearance. Several coats of the highest quality, micro-crystalline curator's paste wax were then applied to help keep the silver clean and bright. The bronze serpentine hands were cleaned of all tarnish and given several coats of wax. The Movement, Mainsprings, Chime Rods and Pendulum. The movement was completely disassembled, properly overhauled, reassembled, lubricated with high-quality synthetic clock oil and grease and successfully bench tested. All three mainsprings were cleaned, inspected and synthetically lubricated and tested. Chime Rods and Pendulum were also inspected and cleaned and polished.
The hammer heads have synthetic inserts which this Chime No. 79 an extremely pleasant, mellow sounding chime and strike. You can listen to the strike and see the healthy pendulum swing in the video below.
After sufficient bench testing of the movement, the entire clock was reassembled, set, adjusted, regulated and tested for an additional three weeks. We work hard to restore our clocks to their original beauty and function. We'll do everything we can to insure that this clock reaches its new owner in the same condition it was listed in.Local Pick-up is also a preferred option. This is an antique which is over eighty years old. It has probably changed owners several times and it is not perfect. It keeps very good mechanical time, but it cannot provide the accuracy or all of the bells and whistles of modern quartz timepieces.
