Antique Seth Thomas Mantel Clock E531-001 Working NO Orig. From Seth Thomas Clock Company, one of the most prolific and long-lived clock makers in the USA, is a beautiful wood Mantel Clock model number E531-001 converted from electric to battery operated. It is estimated to be circa 1920s but could be as young as the 1940s. NOTE: It works but it does not have its original inner clockworks! It has a gorgeous wood case, an Arabic dial with a cream finish clock-face that showcases a fantastic yet simple design at its center.
The Seth Thomas brand name is above it in cursive script. Elegant black hour and minute arms have open circles. The clock measures approx 16.5" wide, 4.5" deep, and 8 high.
Lovely patina to the attractive red-brown two-tone wood with inlay stripe across the lower front. It once was a Lynton--2E electric clock but a repair shop convinced its original owner, an elderly person, to replace the German-made clock workings with a modern battery operated movement. It currently keeps time but no longer has chimes. Label inside the door has Directions for Electric Clock with a 304 Series Strike Movement.Markings: door exterior is marked Lynton--2E Model No. 115 Volts 60 CYC 2.5 Watts. CONDITION - other than replaced clockworks, it is in very good vintage condition with just some minor scuffs / crazing to the finish. It has a few very tiny dings or nicks on outer wood (see photos).
