Antique Seth Thomas Mantel Clock Shasta Model? Fancy Column Design Painted Wood Case Running. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!
Good old clock for one of you out there. A very exceptional example of this model clock here. This is Seth Thomas Adamantine Case Clock here.
Some of the original label is still on the back case of the clock. Very ornate and colorful case here. The case has a black finish to it. The a reddish/pink and green design applied on the case and the arches. Nice incising on the front of the case.Has four columns at the corner and then an adamantine (an early form of a composite material) as an arch on each side. Some separation of the arch where connected to the rest of the clock body. The clock dates to the 1910s to 1920s period. A party said this is the "Shasta" model. You decide if that is accurate before acquiring.
The clock was made in the USA in New England. None of the paper label is still on the base plate of the clock. Great flat beveled glass in the bezel over the face of the clock. No cracking or blistering to the glass. Black numbering on the white colored paper clock face. The clock face shows some wear to the finish. Has Seth Thomas noted in the middle of the clock face and USA at the bottom of the clock face. The adamantine case is all there. Beautiful tambour style to the case. The finish on the case is in very nice shape.
The zinc legs have been lacquered to give a copper look to them. Looks like the left front leg was repaired at one time. Some minor chipping to the finish, most notably the spot on the top of the case, see pic. The rear door is still semi- securely attached to the case by the hinges as is the knob for it.
The bezel is securely attached to the case. Nice looking brass movement on this clock. The Seth Thomas logo is on the back plate at top left and then says made in USA. The movement looks original to the clock.
Nice gong sound on this clock with the gong rod for striking the hours which does work while the clock is running. The bell strike does not go off on the half hour as it should. Gave the rear plate pivots and bushings a cleaning and oiling.
The two springs feel sound when keyed. The clock comes with a vintage wind key and the pendulum bob that came with it. He clock is in running, and hour striking condition. The bell half hour strike does not operate currently. The clock stands 11-15/16" tall, by 16.5" across, by 7-1/8 wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
